Two years later, in 1998, the lab produced IN THE HANDS OF THE TELLER: POETRY AND STORY-TELLING IN SIGN LANGUAGE. Dutch poet Wim Emmerik (pictured) performed his own poetry, and members of the Israeli Deaf community told stories about personal experiences and the formation of the community from its earliest days. Two Deaf teachers presented and exemplified techniques in story telling to young deaf children.
The event was simultaneously interpreted into five languages: Israeli Sign Language, American Sign Language, Sign Language of the Netherlands, Hebrew, and English.
